The team will be primarily carrying out dental treatments in schools for children and their parents. In addition to providing pain relieving dentistry and preventative treatments, volunteers will also offer oral health education including tooth brushing programmes and dietary advice. Access to dentistry in the area is very limited and many of the children and their families will not have seen a dentist before.
The team will be led by Moroccan born dentist Khadija Bakali, who practises at Stratford Dental in London, and Dentaid trustee Mark Inman, who owns Ivydene Dental Practice in Amesbury. This is the first time that Dentaid has worked in this region of Morocco and the charity is looking forward to helping hundreds of families during the 10 day trip.
Volunteers will be asked to raise in the region of £1000 in sponsorship which will pay for flights, accommodation, meals while on duty and other expenses. There will also be some opportunities for sightseeing.
