The University is working with the ICE Postgraduate Dental Institute and Hospital to introduce the new MSc in dental implantology.
The first students will enroll onto the course in September 2018 and will have access to surgical equipment, patients and mentorship at ICE's state of the art purpose-built site, based in Salford Quays close to the University's MediaCityUK campus.
The programme is aimed at dentists who want to progress their career by gaining new skills to provide dental implants and has been designed to take away the stress of delegates finding their own patients, allowing them to concentrate on their own education and training.
It will enable participants to find out about evidence-based treatment planning, patient communication, legal and ethical considerations, and related human factor concepts to improve the quality of care, treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction. They will also learn about new digital workflow technology such as dental cone beam CT Scanning, 3D printing, milling, and minimally invasive computer guided surgery.
The MSc is a three-year programme integrating a research project in the final year and students are fully supported in their research project with clinical and academic experts. The students will be encouraged to participate in postgraduate research in the field of human factors in dentistry as well as implantology.
This structured course provides clinical support and academic teaching in accordance with the FGDP training standards in implant dentistry. The revised programme offers a high-quality learning experience for lifelong learning.
Dr Claire Mercer, director of radiography at the University of Salford, said, "We are extremely pleased to be collaborating with ICE within the School of Health and Society.
