Senior dental nurse Christina Vila Bea certainly has reason to smile after scoring top marks in a national exam.

Christina, who works at the Liverpool University Dental Hospital, has been awarded the National Special Care Dentistry Award.

The award is presented to the most outstanding candidate of the year in the exams and has been made by the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN).

Christina, who lives in Wavertree, won the top accolade after sitting her exam last year. She beat 72 other candidates to win the prestigious honour.

Exam success is nothing new to the 50 year old mum of two. In 2005 she won an award as the best candidate in the dental sedation nursing examination.

She said: ‘I just really enjoy the courses and find them relevant to my work. I love my job so much that the exams are not a chore. They help me to understand how to help patients and I love researching into medical conditions.’

Christina, who first started work at the Dental Hospital in 1983, will now travel to London to take part in a special presentation evening at the NEBDN’s annual general conference.
