Behind the famous pink door in Chelsea, The Kings Road Dental Clinic – which is part of the renowned Harley Street Dental Group – it is now possible to access more than the latest advances in dental care.
At this desirable and illustrious address, the clinic’s patients were already well served by the provision of general and family dentistry, orthodontics, smile makeovers and facial rejuvenation, but now the clinic has another reason to make patients smile with the arrival of an operatic dentist.
Andrew Bain is a highly experienced dentist who recently joined The Kings Road Dental Clinic. However as well as having a passion for dentistry, Andrew has also worked as a professional singer in both West End musicals and in Opera. His singing career has taken him all over the world. In 2008 he signed a record deal with Sony BMG and became known as ‘The Singing Dentist’ - performing live on GMTV, BBC Breakfast, on local and national radio stations and even on the main stage at Bestival. Andrew has recorded an album of hit songs such as ‘Chasing Cars’, ‘I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’ all in his own classical style
Last year Andrew raised over £6k for the charity Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in a single concert near his other dental practice in East Sheen, entitled ‘Love, Loss and Passion’. The evening sold out and was a huge success.
Now, with the support of The Kings Road Dental Clinic, Andrew is bringing ‘Love, Loss and Passion’ to Chelsea, and this time his chosen charity is the Mouth Cancer Foundation.
This charity is of particular interest to Andrew as dental practitioners play a vital role in the detection of mouth cancer where early diagnosis is paramount. The clinic uses the latest technology for the early detection of mouth cancer and was one of the first in the UK to invest in a VELscope Vx which is the only non-invasive device clinically proven to help discover oral abnormalities. This revolutionary device allows the dentists to shine a blue-spectrum light into the mouth which causes the soft tissues to naturally fluoresce. Healthy tissues fluoresce in distinctive patterns and these are visibly disrupted by trauma or disease, making it possible to differentiate between normal and abnormal tissue. Using the VELscope, a wide variety of oral abnormalities can be discovered, often before they are visible to the unassisted eye.
However Andrew was keen to do even more to raise awareness about oral cancer, so opted to support The Mouth Cancer Foundation. This is a professional support organisation solely dedicated to helping people with mouth, throat and other head and neck cancers deal with the crisis of cancer. Through a variety of ways the charity gives resources, information and contact with people in a similar situation at a difficult time.
The ‘Love, Loss and Passion’ concert will feature opera and musical theatre pieces sung by Andrew and a guest soprano. They will be accompanied by a 6-piece chamber orchestra led by Bernie Lafontaine. The music will explore matters of the heart through song and will include opera and musical theatre favourites from La Boheme, Tosca, Rigoletto, West Side Story and many others.
The concert is planned to take place in the Autumn and the event venue and date will be published on the practice website. For more information about ‘Love, Loss and Passion’ or for a consultation with the operatic dentist visit www.kingsroaddentalclinic.com
