Six dental students will be tackling an eight foot wall, mud pools, an army assault course, a giant slippery wall and a hosing station – all in the name of charity.

Jenna Harvey, Kelly Lloyd, Niall Henderson, Stuart Law, Ellery Turner and Daniel Quiney are final year dental students at Cardiff University will be taking on the Men's Health Survival of the Fittest 10k obstacle course to raise money for the British Dental Health Foundation.

The ‘clean, lean, flossing machines’ are hoping to promote the importance of oral health while highlighting the impact it can have on overall wellbeing.

Jenna said: “This is no ordinary 10km run, I think I speak for the whole team when I say we are expecting a difficult but extremely fun challenge. A lot of team work will be involved to get us all around the course, so it will be a great team building experience. It’s an extremely difficult challenge which I’m sure will push us as a team to our limits.

“The British Dental Health Foundation is an incredible organisation that, like us, is dedicated to improving oral health. They offer impartial advice services on oral health including their stamp of approval for dental products, fantastic campaigns such as National Smile Month and Mouth Cancer Action Month, to raise awareness of important issues in oral health. As young dental professionals, we are committed to helping all of our patients improve and achieve good oral health, and by raising money for this brilliant organisation, we hope to help fund the excellent work they do to keep Britain smiling!”

Chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Nigel Carter, added: “This looks an incredibly fun but tough course. I’d like to thank Jenna, Kelly, Niall, Stuart, Ellery and Daniel for choosing our charity. It is a pleasure to see the future dentists’ of tomorrow supporting the work we do, and on behalf of everyone at the Foundation I wish them the very best of luck.”
