Aesthetic Update, a new journal in the Dental Update family, was launched at BDIA Dental Showcase 2024.

The journal, published by Mark Allen Dentistry Media (MADM), has been tailored to dentists seeking to upgrade their expertise in cosmetic dentistry.

Each issue will include four hours of CPD and peer-reviewed articles to ensure dental professionals have access to high-quality, ethical dentistry.

A delegate at the show said, “It’s a really exciting and upcoming area of dentistry. I am excited to see a publication that caters to that.”

Its editorial board consists of leading figures in the field, including:

  • Tif Qureshi, founder of the IAS Ortho Academy
  • Zaki Kanaan, president of the Association of Dental Implantology
  • Miranda Steeples, president of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy
  • Andrew Chandrapal, past-president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and principalof Bourne End Dental
  • Elaine Halley, past president of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and founder of Cherrybank Dental Spa

  • Zainab Al-Mukhtar, an aesthetic dentist and principal of Harrow on Hull Dental and Facial Aesthetics
  • Payman Langroudi, clinical director of Mini Smile Makeover
  • Chris Orr, principal of Advanced Dental Practice
  • Dipesh Parmar, a partner at Acorn dental with a clinical focus on advanced aesthetic restorative dentistry and orthodontics

The first issue was released in March 2024 and the subsequent issues will be published quarterly.

Eddie MacKenzie, editorial director of MADM, said, “There has been huge growth in dental aesthetics in recent years. During covid, we had the zoom-boom where lots of patients were on zoom calls and looking at themselves every day so patients were seeing their teeth more often and that drove them to go to the dentist for aesthetic treatments. We’ve also had advances in technology, new materials, and new equipment which has really revolutionised what dentists can do in practice.”

He added, “The first issue is in part a tribute to Lewis Mackenzie, who sadly passed away just before publication. He has been a long-standing contributor and editorial board member of Dental Update, and was a driving force behind Aesthetic Update, so there are a couple of articles from him in this first issue.”

Rob Yates, managing director of MADM, said, “The MADM team are proud to support all UK dentists undertaking aesthetic treatments through Aesthetic Update. This sector of dentistry continues to grow at pace. As patient expectations increase and new techniques and products become available, we will be providing our subscribers and readers with high-level, peer-reviewed evidence and guidance to support their daily practice.”
