Clyde Munro, Scotland’s leading dental group, has officially opened its state-of-the-art Advanced Dentistry and Clinical Skills Centre in Perth, in partnership with Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies.
The academy officially opened its doors in March 2023, following months of construction work to transform the former bank. It is the first time a facility of its kind has been developed by a dental service organisation in Scotland. To mark its launch, Clyde Munro welcomed 15 BDS – third and fifth-year dental students from the University of Aberdeen.
The high-tech facility has been meticulously planned to deliver hands-on clinical training as well as classroom-based work. It features a nine-station simulation clinic with phantom heads for dental professionals to hone their skills. A dental surgery that allows for procedures to be recorded and live-streamed a multifunctional classroom has also been created, with integrated audio-visual equipment.
The facility features equipment from Dentsply Sirona, including Xios, the latest x-ray technology, and CBCT: Orthophos, a dental CT scanner that produces 3D images of teeth, soft tissue, nerves and bone in one singular scan. The centre will be used by teams across Clyde Munro and will allow clinicians, nurses and support staff to benefit from a range of courses and to learn from world-class speakers and lecturers on a range of topics.
The launch of the centre underlines Clyde Munro’s commitment to the adoption of innovative technologies to deliver the best in clinical care.
During the tour, the students were shown how to use an intraoral scanner. The students also learnt how to use dental CAD software to design dental restorations and observe the digital milling machines that can produce provisional and definitive restorations.
Fiona Wood, chief operating officer for Clyde Munro, commented, “The academy represents a huge investment for us, both financially and in the future of our business. We want to lead the way, demonstrating how technology can improve patient care and drive better outcomes, and we believe our Perth centre will provide a blueprint for future facilities.”
Francois Loiseau, vice president and general manager UK and Ireland, Dentsply Sirona, said, “Education is at the heart of Dentsply Sirona’s philosophy. We are proud to be partnering with Clyde Munro, supporting education within the latest digital technologies for better clinical outcomes. I am confident the continuous learning within this high-tech academy in Perth, will equip dental professionals to deliver even better patient satisfaction in the future.”
