2019-nCoV is an enveloped virus that belongs to the Coronaviruses group. Coronaviruses can cause respiratory infections in mammals and birds, ranging from common colds to pneumonia and bronchitis. Coronaviruses have the ability to cause both upper (nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx) and lower (lungs) respiratory tract infections. They can be transmitted from human to human when there is close contact via droplets when sneezing and coughing. Those droplets can reach the nasal cavity or the mouth at a distance of 1.8m.
Infected people can be contagious during the viral incubation period, even if they are asymptomatic, and they become more contagious when symptoms start to appear. Transmission through inanimate objects has not yet been proven but may be possible; it is recommended to wash and disinfect frequently touched objects regularly.
The main recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization is to use an alcohol-based hand-rub or hand-wash for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and before touching your face.
However, it is important to make sure that the sanitiser you are using is efficacious against Coronaviruses. The viricidal activity of sanitisers is tested following different European standards, depending on their application. For hand hygiene, it is important that the sanitiser complies with the standard EN 14476 and is tested against human adenovirus.
Saniswiss provides two different products for this specific application, which are efficacious against 2019-nCoV –Sanitizer Hands H1 Gel and Sanitizer Hands H1 Solution.
For environmental hygiene, it is important that the surface sanitiser complies with the standard EN 14476 and is tested against BVDV (bovine viral diarrhoea virus), or the standard EN 16777 and is tested against human adenovirus.
Saniswiss provides five different products for this specific application, which are efficacious against 2019-nCoV – Sanitizer Surfaces S4 (complies with EN 14476), Sanitizer Surfaces S1 (complies with EN 14476 and EN 16777), Sanitizer Surfaces S1 wipes (complies with EN 14476 and EN 16777), Saniswiss Surfaces S2 (complies with EN 14476) and Saniswiss Surfaces S2 wipes (complies with EN 14476).
For automatic room and ambulances disinfection with Saniswiss Automate aHP (aerosolised hydrogen peroxide), it is important that the airborne sanitiser complies with the standard NF T 72-281 and is tested against the human adenovirus. Saniswiss provides two different products for this specific application, which are efficacious against 2019-nCoV – Sanitizer Automate P (complies with NF T 72-281) and Sanitizer Automate C (complies with NF T 72-281).
