Run for charity

Jon Wilding has been determined to prove that it’s never too late to improve your fitness.

Jon has been well and truly bitten by the running bug and is showing how leading a healthier lifestyle can benefit good causes as well as his waistline…

Having worked in an office environment at DPAS for over 15 years, Jon began to realise that his somewhat sedentary lifestyle was starting to take its toll, so in August last year he resolved to do something about it.

Around the same time DPAS, sponsors of the Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme, were asking staff to volunteer for the annual Mouth Cancer Awareness Walk in Hyde Park. This was an ideal start to Jon’s exercise regime and  he subsequently helped Team DPAS raise over £1,200 for the Mouth Cancer Foundation.

Jon quickly progressed to faster paced activities and has taken part in a number of races already this year, raising more funds for the Mouth Cancer Foundation in both the Wokefield five mile and the Royal Berkshire 10km runs.  Jon said: ‘The Mouth Cancer Foundation and their Mouth Cancer Screening Accreditation Scheme, supported by DPAS, is a hard working charity needing support and funds. Sponsorship is my way of helping to raise awareness and money for this very worthwhile cause. I am delighted to be helping them and at the same time keeping myself fit and healthy.”
