“I won the 2015 GC Course Prize for Clinical and Academic Excellence for the Postgraduate Certificate Course in Restorative Dental Practice at the esteemed Eastman Dental Institute. The award provided me an opportunity to visit the GC state of the art training facility and headquarters, located in Leuven, Belgium, to attend the GC Composite Course in February. The GC Course Prize included travel to and from London to Leuven, accommodation and course registration fees.
“On day one of the course, I met up with other course delegates at Brussels Station in the morning. We were received by Richard Westbrook (product specialist at GC) and after initial introductions, the group was escorted to the GC Campus in Leuven. The GC Campus was much bigger and more impressive than I had expected.
“Our visit started off with a wonderful lunch in the GC canteen. It was followed by an introductory lecture with Simone Moretto (technical and training manager), who provided us with a broad and in depth understanding of colour determination and composite layering techniques using the user friendly and highly aesthetic G-ænial composite system. Useful tips were given on how to mask heavily discoloured teeth.
“On day two, we were introduced to the new everX Posterior composite, which is a fibre reinforced composite designed to be used as dentine replacement. We were shown techniques on how to strategically use the GC Gradia Gum composite. A thorough guidance on bonding techniques was provided, together with composite finishing and polishing techniques. Last, but not least, we were shown how to aesthetically and predictably repair composite and ceramic fractures. Plenty of hands-on time was available to practice all these technical skills in the state-of-the-art training laboratory. The hospitality throughout the two days was extremely good.
“GC’s extensive expertise and knowledge of dental materials is a well known fact within the industry. My aim whilst attending the GC Composite Course was to learn how to achieve full patient satisfaction by creating perfectly invisible restorations in a limited amount of time. When I attend a hands-on course, I expect to receive detailed instructions and plenty of hands-on time to practice the new skills. I am very pleased to say that GC did not disappoint me at all and provided me with adequate skills to acquire the ability to create perfect restorations.
“I have always been impressed by the aesthetics of layered composite restorations and was under the impression that it must be difficult to achieve this highly aesthetic look. The GC Composite Course gave me the knowledge and skills to achieve the same quality aesthetic results for which I used to admire others for.
“I now use the G-ænial composite system for all my composite restorations due to their effortless manipulation, highly aesthetic results and durability.
“I would highly recommend this course to everyone who is looking to improve their composite skills.”
