The British Society for Advanced Dentistry (BSAD) has announced the appointment of a new president – Peter Sanders, whose term was confirmed at the most recent BSAD conference in Cardiff.

The BSAD, formerly known as British Society for General Dental Surgery (BSGDS), was formed in 1983 and reformed in 2015, when the society merged with the implant diploma (FGDP) alumni. The BSAD now provides an academic forum for general dental practitioners who have achieved post graduate diplomas in different disciplines to develop and exchange ideas. The society offers opportunities for cross discipline discussion, audit and peer review of provided treatments, as well as opportunities for active training and development of younger graduates who commit to further study.

Peter Sanders begins a two year term of office from 2016-2018. He said, “I am humbled by the position of president of the society but also driven by the passion for our profession. This role is a massive privilege for me, and I will do all I can during my term to infuse a new generation with our ideals.

“I hope that as a society, we can employ our unique mix and knowledge to lobby for a register of suitably trained, mentored, dental implantologists with demonstrable audit and peer review. We should also educate general dental practitioners and dental teams so that they understand the technology, feel competent and empowered to engage in maintenance and monitoring; and develop a monitoring index similar to the BPE to give them the tools to do so.
