Alison Lockyer was recently elected as chair of the BDA’s Education, Ethics and the Dental Team (EEDT) Working Group, at a meeting of the BDA’s governing board, the Principal Executive Committee (PEC).

Alison holds the East Midlands and Central seat on the PEC. She has worked in general dental practice for over 35 years and is a practice owner of three practices. She has served on the PEC since its inception and is a former chair of the General Dental Council.

The EEDT Working Group is a PEC subcommittee which considers and advises on all matters relating to the education, training and professionalism of dentists and the dental team and the maintenance and raising of professional standards. Membership of the EEDT working group consists of PEC members, chairs of the craft committees, Student and Young Dentists Committees and a lay member.

Recent work has included advising the PEC on GDC underperformance issues and the wider regulatory landscape, introduction of case examiners to the GDC’s fitness to practise process, satisfactory completion of dental foundation training and general standards issues. The group also considers dental training and workforce issues, and contributes to any regulatory initiatives affecting dentistry.

Yesterday’s PEC meeting also saw the re-election of Mick Armstrong as chair of the PEC and Eddie Crouch as vice-chair. Mick Armstrong has served as chair since 2014 and Eddie Crouch as vice-chair since 2015.
