Community Dental Health publishes scientific articles, reviews, discussion papers, news items and editorials. It is of interest to dentists working in dental public health and to other professionals concerned with disease prevention, health service planning and health promotion throughout the world.
David qualified as a dentist at Guy’s Hospital and his early practising career was spent in the community dental service in London. He has two masters degrees (dental public health, with distinction, and medical statistics), the Diploma in Dental Public Health of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a PhD in epidemiology of oral cancer.
He has been a medical research council special training fellow in health services research and has held both lecturer and senior lecturer posts at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. He was the Eastman’s Director of Education Operations before relocating to the south west in April 2009, to take up the post of inaugural director of postgraduate education and research at Peninsula Dental School. He was awarded a personal chair, his name was added to specialist list in dental public health and he was appointed honorary consultant in dental public health. He is also the Peninsula NIHR’s Local Research Network Group Leader for the oral and dental speciality.
David has been awarded the fellowship ad eundem from the Faculty of General Dental Practice, Royal College of Surgeons of England for his services to the training of primary care dental practitioners.
Speaking of his appointment, David commented, “I am delighted to be stepping in to this role at such a prestigious and well-regarded journal. Community Dental Health practices and developments sit at the heart of what we do at Peninsula School of Dentistry and contribute greatly to what makes us innovative, leading and different. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the editorial board at the journal in my new role.”
Professor Peter G Robinson, editor of Community Dental Health journal, said, “David has shown real commitment and skill in recent years and I am delighted that he will take on this important role. He is a brilliant teacher and has outstanding knowledge of statistics and health services research.”
Professor Christopher Tredwin, head of Plymouth University Peninsula School of Dentistry, added, “We are immensely proud of David’s achievement and we believe he will bring added value in his new role on the journal’s editorial board.”
