Jon Baines Tours offers the opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds on this luxury cruise; a relaxing holiday combined with a series of CPD accredited lectures.

The 12 night, fully inclusive dental cruise takes you in 5-star luxury throughout the Mediterranean, with stops in Barcelona, Provence, Monte Carlo, Tuscany, Rome, Naples, Sicily, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Montenegro and Venice.

Leading the tour are Paul and Karen Johnson.  Paul is an expert on oral and maxillofacial surgery, while Karen practised as a barrister, specialising in regulatory law representing doctors and nurses before the GMC and NMC. 

The trip includes 15 hours of CPD lectures and topics include: improving profits and practice; treatment planning for dental implants; restoring and immediate loading on dental implants; facial aesthetics; endodontics; medical emergencies; medico-legal aspects; advanced tooth repair; and oral/maxillofacial surgery and interpreting medical history.

Itinerary:

Arrive in Barcelona and board the ms Nieuw Amsterdam. On day one, take an optional private guided tour to the south of France and into picturesque Provence.

Cruise onwards through the Mediterranean to arrive in time for breakfast in Monte Carlo. Spend the morning sampling the high life in this most luxurious of ports before returning to the ship for late afternoon lectures.

The next morning finds you in Livorno.  Take a guided tour through beautiful Tuscany to Florence, a city rich in history and culture. The afternoon is your own: visit the Ufizi, shop or relax. Another day of cultural treasures follows in the eternal city of Rome.

The following morning sail south along the Amalfi Coast to Sicily and the town of Taormina and enjoy two hours of lectures. The cruise departs late at night, giving you ample time for a romantic dinner, perched on a mountainside above the Bay of Naxos.

A full day of cruising follows with a series of lectures.

Next, it’s on to Greece where you can spend the day enjoying the lush Greek island of Corfu before cruising along the Dalmatian coast to the magnificent port city of Dubrovnik.

Cruise between mountains into a giant fjord at Kotor in Montenegro. Take an optional tour of Kotor or explore at your leisure. In the afternoon there are two hours of lectures with a farewell dinner and drinks on board the ship.

The final day finishes with an open forum, where anyone may speak on a subject of their choice. Arrive in Venice after lunch and spend the rest of the day as you please. Depart the following morning or extend your time in Venice.

Tour leaders:

Paul Johnson was appointed consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He lectures widely on maxillofacial and facial plastic surgery. In private practice he specialises in oral surgery and facial cosmetic surgery. Paul is an experienced tour leader.

Karen Johnson was a GP for several years before she retrained as a barrister. She then practised as a barrister, specialising in regulatory law representing doctors and nurses before the GMC and NMC. She also spent a period of time as a coroner in Surrey. In December 2009 she retired from practice.

Lecturers:

James Kleiber lectures internationally on dental implants and restorative dentistry. He taught for eight years at Guys Hospital, is a member and mentor of the ADI. His key interests are management of patients with minimal bone and immediate loading on dental implants.

David Paul is healthcare director at Graham Paul, chartered accountants and has a Masters degree in the legal aspects of medical practice. A member of the National Association of Specialist Accountants, he is an expert in the healthcare sector with more than forty years experience offering advice to the dental and medical professions.

Rhiain Paul has been a GDP in South Wales for thirty five years. She holds a Masters degree in The Legal Aspects of Medical Practice from Cardiff Law School and was the Dental representative on the Local Health Board in Bridgend for six years.

Nathalie Richard is a consultant in emergency medicine. Nathalie works in a multidisciplinary dental and medical centre in Harley Street.

Tim Sunnucks is on the specialist register in endodontics and lectures and runs courses on endodontics and restorative dentistry. Tim is a member of The British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and the International College of Dentists.
