A packed morning and afternoon of presentations spanning five different themes, a dedicated CV clinic, and a presentation by the chair of NHS England will be just some of the highlights of the BDA/UCL Eastman Dental Institute Careers Day, as revealed in the recently-published programme.

Taking place at the University of London’s Senate House on Friday February 7, 2014, the event will offer foundation and newly-qualified dentists information, inspiration and insight. The day starts with a presentation on ‘The future of the NHS’ by the Chair of NHS England, Sir Malcolm Grant. It will be followed by a panel debate with the chief dental officer for England, Barry Cockcroft; the chair of the BDA’s principal executive committee, Martin Fallowfield; the BDA’s chief executive, Peter Ward; and Stephen Porter, Professor of Oral Medicine and director of the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Alison Miles-Jenkins, from Training to Achieve Enterprises, will then share her top tips for a winning CV.

The second part of the day offers delegates a choice of a wide range of presentations focused on five different themes. Theme one looks at opportunities in both NHS and private general practice, as well as what is on offer for those considering work in the salaried services. Theme two consists of a series of clinical demonstrations covering implant surgery, occlusal assessment, aesthetics and composites.

The third theme provides advice and guidance for those looking to build their experience working and studying abroad, as well as interview tips. Theme four provides more information on specialist opportunities in oral surgery, orthodontics and specialist private practice. Theme five offers insight into career opportunities with some of the UK’s larger dental groups as well as business presentations on tax, income and ethical selling.

Further event highlights include a dedicated CV clinic offering one-to-one advice from speakers at the event, an exhibition providing the opportunity to meet with potential employers and those offering guidance and support, and an evening drinks reception where delegates can network with their peers and chat further with exhibitors.

Delegate fees start from just £52 for dental students and are also significantly reduced for Foundation Dentists. Further information and booking details are available at www.bda.org/careersday  or by calling Dawn Mifsud on 020 7905 1261 or by email d.mifsud@ucl.ac.uk
