Log on and log it

Dental care professionals (DCPs) coming to the end of their first full five year cycle of continuing professional development (CPD) should now be logging their hours.

On July 31st around 40,000 DCPs will reach the end of their cycle and by that date they must have completed 150 hours of CPD.

This is a legal requirement and registrants will have until August 28, 2013 to declare the hours that they have completed or risk losing their GDC registration.

Record it and submit it

Registrants can keep track of, and submit their CPD hours at any time using an eGDC account.

eGDC is a self-service registrant website which allows dental professionals to manage their  registration online. Registrants can set up or access their eGDC account by going to the eGDC website.

Alternatively, registrants can download a recording form from the GDC website.

Tell us now and then keep your records

Registrants are advised to submit the hours they’ve done to date, even if they haven’t completed them all. Keeping the GDC up to date with their hours will speed things up when the cycle comes to an end.

All registrants, no matter how they submit their hours, should keep a written record of all the CPD that they do. Registrants may also be required to submit documentary evidence that their CPD meets the verifiable criteria if the GDC asks for it, including for audit purposes.

All CPD records must be kept by the registrant for a minimum of five years after the end of the cycle in which it was completed.

What DCPs have told us so far

Of the 39,881 DCPs in the cycle, 18,941 have completed all their hours and 3,639 have yet to declare any.
