The world’s first dental surgery infection control system comprising products for skin, surfaces, floors, instruments, water and clothing has been launched.

Ranging from a hand wash to laundry detergent, the HTM 01-05 compliant, inert, non-toxic, six-stage system comes directly from dental and medical infection control systems specialist Surgery Clean.

The creation and launch of the fully integrated system follows an 18-month market research project involving over 100 UK dentists, practice managers and dental nurses, including face-to-face interviews.

Featuring Soterel Plus, one of the most effective antimicrobials available, with a kill rate of up to 99.9999 per cent, the Surgery Clean system has been specifically designed to provide a simple, comprehensive and more effective way to manage cross-infection control. Surgery Clean says the product is designed to make the practice manager’s life easy, is available in a clean and simple online shop and is priced competitively, compared to the current market leading products in each category.

Steve Marshall, director of infection control for Seventh Medical (pictured), which owns and manages the Surgery Clean brand, said: “Cross-infection control is a huge issue for dentists, practice managers and dental nurses. It’s something that’s vitally important for every practice to manage, but often a challenge to implement efficiently.

“With Soterel Plus, we knew we had the one of the best antimicrobials available, so we wanted to create the ideal dental surgery infection control system based on it. That led to us undertaking the research, to find out what issues practices faced and exactly how we could help them.”

The clear insight the market research gave Surgery Clean was dental practitioners wanted a peace-of-mind, hassle-free choice when it came to cross-infection control. It also revealed they wanted a system which provided a ‘one stop shop’, rather than a selection of products, from various manufacturers, via distributors, but one was not easily accessible.

Mr Marshall said: “Our response to the research was to produce a range of six colour-coded, integrated products of the highest quality and effectiveness, each shaped by market insight. That’s why our hand rub includes moisturiser - many people complained of dry hands from using their current alcohol-based product.

“It’s also why we produce a laundry detergent and fabric conditioner containing Soterel Plus, so dentists can take steps to ensure the tunics and uniforms of their teams are fully infection-controlled.

“Our ambition is to provide peace-of-mind and make the lives of people responsible for cross- infection control in dental surgeries a whole lot easier. We believe both the Surgery Clean system and the simplicity of our online ordering and re-ordering process will do just that.”
