The annual congress of the "Indian Society of Oral Implantologists ISO" was the reason for Dr. Florian Obadan, oral surgeon and managing director of bredent medical Romania, and for Jörg Lermer, dental technician and Sales employee of bredent medical Germany, to travel to India.
The spontaneous decision was made to organise a live surgery workshop there and to demonstrate the immediate SKY fast and fixed restoration performed at the DY Patil University School of Dentistry in Navi Mumbai. The results of this event were a happy treatment team, impressed participants and a patient with a bright smile on his face.
The congress opened with a speech by Dr. Florian Obadan on the subject of "SKY fast and fixed immediate restorations with a reduced number of implants". All other lecturers covered various topics from the field of oral implantology. For the first time, there were also dental technicians among the participants whose interest mainly focused on the new BioHPP material - a ceramic-reinforced high-performance polymer from bredent.
Vikram Vaidya, managing director of SP Dental, used the opportunity of having an experienced European oral surgeon and dental technician in his country and organized four additional workshops. One of them was held at DY Patil University School of Dentistry in Navi Mumbai as part of the Integri-teeth Continuum. Integri-teeth supports young dentists through exchange of ideas, know-how and the presentation of modern technologies by guest lecturers who give one- or two-day courses at the university. During the preparatory meetings of the workshops, the conversation turned to a young patient of the university who was unable to eat properly despite his new full lower denture. Owing to his financial situation, this patient could not afford a new restoration. Together with Dr. Obadan, Dr. Burzin Kahn offered the patient implant placement during the workshop and to immediately attach a fixed temporary bridge - in accordance with the SKY fast and fixed therapy - in cooperation with his dental technician Danesh and the German dental technician Jörg Lermer. Planning was completed in the practice of Dr. Burzin Kahn and the procedure was discussed with the dentists and dental technicians based on the existing denture. Surgery was transmitted to the lecture room where it was watched by professors and 70 postgraduates. Surgery was performed routinely by Dr. Obadan and Dr. Kahn and the team of technicians were able to fabricate the temporary bridge despite a power failure so that the final group photo showed the patient with a bright smile on his face - four hours after surgery. The patient was recalled the next morning and presented to the audience. He did not have any swelling and was able to speak properly. He reported that he had been able to eat already in the evening and that the minor pain immediately stopped once he had taken the medication he had received.
The precarious situation of the patients could only be changed thanks to the commitment of the medical team and the material provided by SP Dental free of charge. The audience was more than impressed and happy to be able to repeat and comprehend what they had learned in a hands-on workshop. The happiest person, however, was the patient whose joy of life could be restored.
