Future of dentistry

On July 7, the Westminster Health Forum, are holding a seminar entitled Dentistry 2015: primary care, public health, and the dental contract.

The seminar is being supported by Oasis Healthcare and it has been confirmed that there will be a senior speaker from NHS England.

The session will be chaired by Lord Colwyn, Vice-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Dentistry.

The topic of the first section will be the challenges and opportunities for the dental industry and a member of the British Dental Association has been confirmed to discuss this.

Rupert Hoppenbrouwers, Head of Dental Defence, and Professor Rebecca Harris, Professor of Oral Health Services Research at the University of Liverpool, will discuss the dental contract in terms of evaluating quality, improving access and rising indemnity costs.

Helen Falcon, Chair of the UK Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans and Directors will speak on the subject of training and the future dental workforce.

Sampana Banga, Head of Inspection, will talk about sector wide regulation and movement towards a rating system.

After a short break, Richard Allott, a Member of Doncaster & Bassetlaw Local Dental Committee and Chair will deliver ‘A call to action’: impact on the dentistry sector.

A senior representative of the public health sector will discuss preventative treatment and the improvement of self-care.

Robin Mills, Vice President of the British Society pf Pediatric Dentistry will explain a new three year strategy in pediatric dentistry.

Finally, the attendees will be addressed by a keynotespeaker from NHS England on the next steps for the dental industry and oral health policy.
