This award showcases the way in which clinician and patient pull together during treatment, often in challenging circumstances. The winner is the patient who submits the best account and their prize is £750 worth of travel vouchers.
Their orthodontist is presented with a stunning sculpture to display in their practice.
Professor Tim Newton, professor of psychology as applied to dentistry and a judge of Against the Odds, says, “The Against the Odds competition is about celebrating two things: the transformational change that orthodontics can bring about in individuals, often those who have struggled with other difficulties in their life, and the dedication, talent and professionalism of orthodontists and their teams.”
Guy Deeming, chairman of the Orthodontic Specialists Group of the BOS, which created the award, said: “This award is about celebrating the amazing treatment which takes place in orthodontic practices. Every year we get such different stories. It’s very gratifying and we are looking forward to more entries in 2016.”
