Experts on the Invisalign stand (L30) at the Dentistry Show are being lined up to advise general dentists about methods for using the Invisalign system as part of their restorative treatments, specifically focusing  on the use of Invisalign Lite and Invisaligni7 to treat crowding and spacing anomalies.

Align Technology has made it easier for GDPs to become confident using Invisalign in a number of ways and delegates can also learn about its case selection tool and ClinCheck Pro software.  The company will also be familiarising visitors with the benefits of harnessing advanced digital technology using the iTero Element Intraoral Scanner.

Invisalign Lite and i7 are the two products in the Invisalign portfolio specifically designed for aesthetic corrections which are therefore most applicable for use by general dentists. With Invisalign Lite treatment time is limited to seven months (14 aligners) and Invisalign i7 can achieve results in as little as three months, without the inconvenience of traditional fixed braces. These two products are ideally suited to patients with minor malocclusions or those who have undergone orthodontic treatment in the past and have lapsed because of infrequent retainer wear.

No time for lounging

In addition to Invisalign’s stand presence, in the Short Term Orthodontic Lounge, Mohsen Tehranian of Dream Smile Dental Clinic will be lecturing on ‘Integrating the Invisalign System into your dental practice’ twice during the two day show: on Friday, April 22 at 15.40 and Saturday, April 23 at 12.25. Whilst the lecture theatre is called the Short Term Orthodontic Lounge, the Invisalign system is much more sophisticated than run of the mill STO systems as it can treat a wide range of malocclusions from simple to more complex.

Mohsen is practice principal of Dream Smile Dental Clinic, South London. He qualified from Carol Davila Dental Institute with distinction in 1998.  He is one of few dentists in the UK to have achieved the prestigious Diamond Award from Align Technology having successfully completed over 2,000 Invisalign cases and was the first dentist in the UK to submit an Invisalign i7 case.  Mohsen started using the Invisalign system in 2006, modestly at first treating between 20 to 30 patients with clear aligners in the first year. He now averages around 500 case starts a year.

Mohsen Tehranian is passionate about the latest dental technology and his was also one of the first practices to use the iTero scanner for his digital impression taking.  He has found that this has enabled him to provide better fitting aligners and increase production efficiency by saving valuable time, helping him grow his business to the stage it has reached today.

Evolving from 20 to 30 treatments a year to 500 is no small feat.  In his lecture Mohsen will explain the steps he has taken to achieve this significant growth:  “We have found that driving efficiencies in all areas of our dental practice has had a significant impact on allowing us to provide a streamlined service to our patients. As a practice we offer well organised treatment planning: our impressions are taken onsite digitally with the iTero Scanner and we ensure all attachments are pre-prepared ahead of each patient appointment.  Such efficiencies have resulted in our ability to offer Invisalign at extremely competitive prices.”

Mohsen will also explain how he uses ClinCheck Pro software to show patients a 3D visualisation of their upcoming Invisalign treatment plan, showing the series of movements their teeth will go through over the course of their Invisalign treatment. This allows both patient and provider to see the position the teeth are expected to end up in once the Invisalign treatment is completed – and that’s before it has even begun.

“I use Invisalign’s unique ClinCheck software to ensure that these treatments are as minimally invasive as possible. I strongly believe that ensuring my patients have correctly aligned teeth, allows me to reduce the invasiveness of any further cosmetic dentistry I may suggest. For example, if a patient is interested in veneers, I am often able to show them, via the ClinCheck, that I will need to remove far less tooth to fit a veneer once their teeth are correctly aligned. Patients appreciate this attitude towards conservancy, and are more often than not happy to wait for the end of their Invisalign treatment before I undertake any additional aesthetic dentistry”.
