Delegates to the two day event in Vienna, taking place over Valentine’s weekend (February 13-14, 2016), will have an unrivalled opportunity to hear about the latest clinical advances, product developments and practical advice from experts in the field which they can apply in practice. There is also a hands-on element with a series of workshops on the second day. By the end of the congress clinicians should be in a better position to compare the technical and clinical advantages of each aligner system and select the ideal treatments for their patients.
Accelerating tooth movement
Marco Tribo will discuss acceleration of tooth movement in adults using photo-biomodulation and share a number of case reports of patients treated with the Orthopulse device, whilst Kenji Ojima willreviews the extended scope of Invisalign and reports on ways to shorten the treatment period, by use a combination of a non-invasive Accelerate device and the Invisalign system. Alberto Diaspro willlook at acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement to meet aesthetic aspirations faster and reduce the risk of gingival inflammation, decalcification, dental caries, and, especially, root resorption. He will present cases showing a novel outpatient technique combining corticotomy and clear orthodontic aligners (corticotomy assisted orthodontic treatment) allowing the orthodontist to treat extended arches in a way that removes the need for extensive flap elevation and minimises bone surgery.
Digital treatment planning and ortho restorative interface
Raman Aulakh willlook at the huge benefits of digital treatment planning in aesthetic dentistry and especially the power of ortho-restorative interface in smile design, functional occlusion and minimally invasive restorative dentistry. In addition, Alessandro Mario Greco will talk about new features of the new Invisalign ClinCheck Pro software which helps clinicians achieve more precise control by making adjustments directly on the 3D model and visualising the effects on the whole dentition in real time. Berbl Reistenhoferreviews how Invisalign has become an excellent treatment method to close open bites thanks to the ClinCheck which facilitates accurate case analysis and ensures an optimal individualised treatment result for the patient.
Meanwhile Knut Thedens will focus on the popularity of aligner systems where predicting reliable results can only be achieved with in depth orthodontic diagnosis procedures and excellent analogue and digital planning methods. A report on treatment of class III malocclusions with the CA clear aligner treatment system will also be presented. Stefano Velowill discuss the application of invisible orthodontic aligners, how reliable they have become and how they respond to the need for digital treatment planning, remote reading of results and participatory planning with the patient. Reference will also be made to the technological application of the Arc Angel system; its clinical use without underestimating indications and limitations of the method.
Which clear aligners?
Eric Kuo will focus on the most effective and efficient approaches to treating complex malocclusions with clear aligners, retrospectively analysing successfully treated clear aligner cases; Tim Wheeler will review the different clear aligner systems on the market including factors that could affect tooth movement and treatment outcomes; andNimrod Tal will present a new alignment system where the whole process is solely made by computer assisted design and manufacturing, combining the biomechanical forces generated by straight wires together with the benefits of clear aligners and spring aligners.
Anchorage
Pablo Echarri Lobiondowill provide guidelines on anchorage in relation to treatment planning through a series of case reports, and Benedict Wilmes willexpand onthe treatment opportunities of aligners as a result of pre-treatment with mini-implant borne mechanics. The Benefit Technique will be presented as a pre-treatment option which makes possible tasks like sagittal bodily tooth movement, alignment of impacted teeth, uprighting and intrusion of molars, and rapid palatal expansion in the anterior palate.
Invisalign and Craniomandibular disorder
Werner Schupp will focus on the treatment of a craniomandibular disorder using the Invisalign System. The association of splint therapy and the Invisalign system not only provides comfortable and almost invisible treatment but also constitutes a powerful instrument for the orthodontic treatment of the CMD patient.
Combination treatments
James Mah willfocus on expanding the scope of aligner therapy with combination treatments and early treatment appliances to offer a greater aesthetic choice for patients. He will also touch on the use of fixed appliances at certain stages of treatment (i.e. severe rotations, patient preferences) and early treatment aesthetic appliances. This lecturer will review aesthetic rapid palatal expanders, class II and class III correctors. In addition, Woo TtumBittner will discuss treatment with Suresmile Positioners and Aligners which provide a variety of lingual, labial or removable treatment options and allow a mid-treatment switch from one appliance to another one to optimise treatment time and treatment outcome.
Retention clear strategies
Gaia Francesconi will look at experience based retention clear strategies to prevent detrimental post-orthodontic tooth movement, where the protocols include both fixed and removable retainers used separately or together depending on patient compliance and the dentist’s preference.
