The team raised over £1300 and was awarded the charity's platinum award for fundraising.
The team, comprised of six employees (senior dental officers, dental nurses, a specialist in special care and CDS’s clinical director), built a raft and took part in the Bedford River Festival’s raft race, finishing third in their heat and sixth in the final.
The team aimed to have fun, raise awareness and fundraise for the Mouth Cancer Foundation. The charity is dedicated to helping and supporting those living with or at risk of mouth cancer, throat cancer and other head and neck cancers.
The Mouth Cancer Foundation also provides valuable assistance and information to families, friends and carers of those affected by the disease.
Glen Taylor, chief operating officer for CDS in the East of England and one of the raft crew, said, “Last year, a staggering 10,825 individuals in the UK were diagnosed with mouth cancer – around 30 people per day. This statistic highlights the urgency to raise awareness and bring about positive change.
“CDS patients routinely receive cancer screenings as part of their appointments and CDS’s Oral Health Improvement teams work within communities to promote good oral health and provide advice on how to self-check.
“The Mouth Cancer Foundation has always been close to our hearts and for many years now, we have been actively involved in supporting their cause through fundraising and spreading awareness. By joining hands with the Mouth Cancer Foundation, we aim to save more lives and make a positive impact on those affected by this disease.”
