After the huge success of last year’s charity poll, and donation of £5,000 to dental charities, BDTA Dental Showcase is re-launching the charity poll for 2013.

Dentaid, British Dental Health Foundation (BDHF) and Bridge2Aid have again been chosen to receive up to £10k – but they need your vote.  When on-line registrations reach 20k, the BDTA will donate £5,000, shared out between the charities in accordance with your votes. When registrations reach 25k BDTA will add another £5,000 to be shared between them in the same way.

All you need to do is register for BDTA Dental Showcase, the largest event in the dental calendar where members from every corner of dentistry gather to discover all the latest innovations and developments within the industry. Once registered you’ll be given the chance to vote for your favourite charity to decide how the money is shared.  Last year’s donation made a significant difference in the world of dentistry, as shown by the dental charities themselves who used the money in several ways, including:

  • Bridge2Aid’s Dental Volunteer Programme (DVP) based in Tanzania, which aims to help educate local healthcare workers on how to deliver safe emergency dentistry for their community. One of the people helped by the DVP programme was 14 year old Joseph Samwel, a child who has been suffering from toothache for two years. Thanks to the DVP programme Joseph was able to see a local healthcare worker and receive access to the dental treatment he needed.
  • Dentaid’s Dentalbox, a portable dental surgery in a wheelie bin, which includes all the essential instruments and equipment for poor communities to gain access to vital pain-relieving care and live healthy, productive lives. The portable surgeries are currently being used in Uganda, Malawi and Ethopia which are proving to be highly effective in increasing access to oral health care in remote areas.
  • British Dental Health Foundation’s new dental education pack, www.dentalbuddy.org – a website with a range of free materials and resources to encourage more dental professionals to forge links with schools and deliver oral health messages to children in the community. Director of Educational Resources at the Foundation, Amanda Oakey comments “By going into schools and nurseries, and sharing their knowledge and experiences, dental professionals and oral health teams can really make a positive difference for many children in the UK, particularly in more deprived areas where inequalities in health are more apparent.”

BDTA Dental Showcase 2013 will be held at Birmingham’s NEC from 17-19th October. To find out more about BDTA Dental Showcase 2013 and register for tickets visit: www.dentalshowcase.com now!
