During the outreach, volunteers from the Philippine Dental Association joined the foundation to provide complimentary oral care services for residents of Christ the King Parish at Las Pinas City, Philippines. A team of more than 20 dentists and dental nurses saw more than 120 patients, many of whom required multiple procedures. The health care professionals performed more than 420 procedures including oral exams, prophylaxis, restorative fillings and extractions.
“We were able to complete this extra mission thanks to the generous dental products donated through the International College of Dentists’ Global Visionary Fund and Henry Schein,” said Ed de la Vega, president of the Dentistry for Every Village Foundation. “We are very grateful for their long term commitment and trust in our activities.”
As one of the world's oldest and largest honor societies for dentists, the International College of Dentists (ICD) has over 12,000 members in 122 countries throughout the world. All members of the college, regardless of their native language or country of residence, adhere to one universal motto: ‘Recognising service and the opportunity to serve’. Fellowship in the college is by invitation only. A nominated dentist must pass a rigorous peer review process leading to the recognition of the individual’s outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind.
For four years, Henry Schein has been partnering with ICD as a diamond sponsor. In addition, Henry Schein Cares, the company’s global corporate social responsibility programme, agreed to support the ICD’s Global Visionary Fund, a tax advantaged (IRS 501c3) charitable fund created by the council for the purpose of collecting and distributing monies in support of initiatives in dental education and humanitarian oral health care. In time, the fund will allow the council to respond to requests from ICD fellows and other volunteers for financial assistance with their charitable works around the world, especially those of the ICD regions.
Henry Schein Cares stands on four pillars: engaging Team Schein Members to reach their potential, ensuring accountability by extending ethical business practices to all levels within Henry Schein, promoting environmental sustainability, and expanding access to health care for underserved and at risk communities around the world. Health care activities supported by Henry Schein Cares focus on three main areas: advancing wellness, building capacity in the delivery of health care services and assisting in emergency preparedness and relief.
