Catering for 4304 guests, a seven per cent increase on 2012, Crisis at Christmas once again opened its doors at 10 centers across the UK for a six-day period over Christmas 2013.

Providing food, shelter, advice and healthcare services, Crisis at Christmas aims to provide companionship and support to tackle loneliness and isolation and helps people take their first steps out of homelessness.

Henry Schein Dental has been supporting Crisis at Christmas for eight years and in 2013 was once again instrumental in providing and equipping the dental units, which are such an important part of the healthcare services provided by Crisis at Christmas.

Henry Schein Dental’s team of volunteers included engineers and team members from the distribution centre, all of whom gave up their time to help deliver the goods and equipment necessary to equip the mobile dental units at Crisis’ London centre which were then made ready for use thanks to a range of materials donated by DENTSPLY and the British Dental Industry Association (BDIA). The units were used by volunteer clinicians and nursing staff who performed a total of 404 dental consultations over the six-day period, resulting in a range of treatments including hygiene procedures, 208 fillings and 137 extractions.

Managing director of Henry Schein Dental UK, Simon Gambold is proud that the dental industry has come together to provide such practical and much-needed support:

“For some of the guests, Crisis at Christmas offers their only opportunity to access dental care, which as we all know is such an important factor in an individual’s overall health and wellbeing. Along with DENTSPLY and the BDIA, we are always pleased to do whatever we can to assist in making this very worthwhile cause the success it is.”
