Inspectors made an unannounced visit to the High Road practice in December.
CQC found that the practice was failing to meet the seven national standards of quality and safety inspected. On five of these standards, formal warnings were issued to the provider.
A full report from this inspection has been published on the CQC website today.
Among inspector’s findings:
• Systems to reduce the risk and spread of infection were limited.
• There were no arrangements in place to deal with a patient collapse. A resuscitation kit was found to contain an oxygen canister which expired in 1994.
• Records were stored in unlocked rooms and personal data was not protected.
• Staff were not aware of any audits or patient surveys designed to regularly assess and monitor the quality of services provided.
Matthew Trainer, regional director for CQC in London, said,
“We’ve identified a number of serious issues at Ilford Dental Practice which the provider needs to put right immediately. We’ve also referred our findings here to Environmental Health and to the Fire Safety Assessor.
“People are entitled to receive care and treatment in services which are safe, effective, caring, responsive to their needs, and well led.
“We will return unannounced in due course to check whether the provider has made the required changes. If we find the changes have not been made, we will take further action to protect people.”
