Dentsply Sirona is delighted to announce the UK winner of the Dentsply Sirona Ceram.X case contest 2016.

This annual case study contest is open to dental faculties, departments and individual students from around the world and since its inception in 2004, over 1,400 students have taken part in this world renowned contest.

The Ceram.X case contest involves dental students and their accompanying academic tutors submitting a case involving either anterior or posterior restorations, which best showcases their clinical skills.

Congratulations this year go to Sapna Patel of Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and her tutor Matthew Jerreat for winning the UK case contest. Sapna achieved a remarkable aesthetic and functional outcome on the deteriorating oral health and appearance of a 39 year old man using ceram.x mono and duo composite.

Using a free handed layering technique, Sapna was able to perfectly complement the shape and shade of the surrounding natural teeth, preserving as much of the original tooth structure as was possible in such a severe case where generalised caries where rampant.

The judges were particularly impressed by the way in which the reconstruction impacted on the patient’s motivation and self confidence.
