Dental hygienist and infection control lead Janet Heyworth, of The Dental Health Practice in Southampton, is the first recipient of Dentisan's ‘Clean Water Award’ in recognition of their commitment to water quality in dental unit water lines.

Assuring the quality of water being fed through dental unit water lines straight into patients’ mouths has been a challenge faced by practices for many years, and one Janet was very aware of. To help with this problem, infection control specialists Dentisan recently opened a water testing facility at their in-house laboratory, offering practices a free service to test water samples. Following testing, the practice receives a report, either confirming decontamination of less than 200cfu/ml, or offering suggestions for remedial action.

Any practice submitting two consecutive samples of compliant water within a six-month period receives a ‘Clean Water Award’ certificate, an award that Janet and the team at The Dental Health Practice are very proud of.

Janet, pictured receiving her certificate from Dentisan’s Commercial Director Bob Newsome, commented: “I am delighted to have received this award. It provides not only valuable evidence of compliance, it also gives peace-of-mind for those ultimately responsible for the well-being of our patients and staff.”

Water testing kits are provided free with Bioclear, and are also available separately from Henry Schein Dental. Send samples to Dentisan as outlined in the instructions, and await the result.
