Dawn Piper, senior sales manager at Initial Medical based in Camberley, is preparing for her biggest challenge of her year – running the BMW Berlin Marathon to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

While her job involves meeting challenging targets she admits that preparing to take on the 26 mile long course is pushing her to her limit.

Dawn comments: “Five years have passed since I last laced my trainers up to run the 26.2 miles that was the New York City Marathon and my memories of the early morning runs, blisters, shin splints, hunger and pain on the day are all long forgotten.

“Motivated by the fact that Berlin is flat and by my desire to get fit, I will be pounding the streets on September 27, 2015, to help fundraise for this brilliant charity.  The training has been time consuming with four hour runs every Saturday morning, early starts and late finishes during the week to fit in the pre-race mileage, combined with seven to eight training sessions every week including cardio, core, weights, flexibility and stamina.

“I will be joining team ‘Men United’ to raise vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK – this is a charity very close to my heart following the death of a close friend’s brother from the disease last year. Please guys, check your bits regularly and if things aren’t right down there, get them checked out sooner rather than later – we want you around for a long time!”

Dawn’s fundraising target is £750 and she has a JustGiving page set up to receive donations, no matter how large or small: www.justgiving.com/teamwowberlin/
