Held on May 13, Sameer Patel, clinical director, and Shivani Patel and Anthony Lam, orthodontic specialists, invited a variety of friends, patients and colleagues to The Buckinghamshire Golf Club, including Lewis Moody, former England Captain, to enjoy a day on the golfing green whilst raising money for Smile Train.
Throughout the day, guests played 18 holes of golf and had the opportunity to take part in fun competitions such as ‘Beat the Pro.’ Following this, guests attended an early dinner and were entertained by former English Cricketer, Ed Giddins, who auctioned off an amazing line up of prizes including five box tickets to see The Manic Street Preachers at the Royal Albert Hall and two tickets to The Monaco Grand Prix!
Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to the solvable problem of cleft lip and palate. The charity’s sustainable model provides training and funding to empower local doctors in 85+ developing countries to provide 100 per cent free cleft repair surgery in their communities.
The ‘Smile Train Golf Day’ raised a whopping £33,500, all of which will help to fund 100 per cent free surgery and comprehensive care for children with clefts.
Sameer comments: “The Smile Train Golf Day was brilliant fun and we were thrilled with the total raised, all of which can be put to good use to help treat children with clefts in developing countries. We share the vision that every child should have the opportunity to live a full and productive life, free from speech impediment and the problems surrounding cleft lip and palate, and we are very passionate about this partnership.”
Amerjit Chohan, director of fundraising in UK at Smile Train, comments: “We are delighted that Elleven Dental kindly hosted the Smile Train Golf Day and we are extremely thankful for their ongoing support. As award winning dentists, they understand the true power a smile can have on a person’s life, and we hope this event will further strengthen the already flourishing partnership between Elleven and Smile Train.”
