To mark this anniversary, a drinks reception was held on May 21, 2015, at the Naval & Military Club, London, sponsored by the British Dental Industry Association, Closer Still Media, Laura Horton Consulting, Parliament Hill Ltd, Purple Media, Square Mile Insurance, Trafalgar Risk Management and WR Berkley Insurance (Europe) Ltd.
BDIA President Terry Porter presented BADN President Fiona Ellwood with a commemorative glass to mark the occasion. In her speech, Fiona thanked not only the BDIA for their long standing support of BADN and dental nursing but also the other sponsors; and paid tribute to those dental nurses who had in the past formed and developed the Association and the dental nursing profession.
“The Association and profession would not be where we are today without them” said Fiona. “It is right that we look back and recall those who have paved the way, but it is equally important to look to the future. I thank you on behalf of the British Association of Dental Nurses for joining us in our celebrations, I know many of you have travelled far to be with us. Many of you have been part of this journey and will know how much the role of the dental nurse has changed over the years, when registration finally came to fruition nobody could have imagined the sheer impact that it would have and indeed what it will mean for the future, but it is one with much greater opportunity and who knows where it will end. It is a privilege to be in post at such a momentous time for the Association, nevertheless this year will see the end of my tenure.” BDIA’s Tony Reed responded with “here’s to the next 75 years!”
There will be a further event later in the year – details will be made available to BADN members through the website www.badn.org.uk, the British Dental Nurses’ Journal and by e-newsletter.
