The Association of Dental Implantology held their 25th Anniversary Team Congress in Manchester this May. Over 700 delegates attended the Congress which was themed ‘How long do implants last? Complications, risk management and prognosis’. An impressive line up of speakers helped to answer this question, where topics covered included biological complications, imaging, the use of pink porcelain, short implants, sinus grafting complications, IAN injury and many more.
The Congress, held at the Manchester Central Convention Complex from May 1 - 3 2013, was organised by ADI president Cemal Ucer and his scientific co-ordinator Eddie Scher. They invited the world’s most eminent Implantologists and researchers including Tomas Albrektsson and Franck Renouard in Europe, German Gallucci in the USA and Tara Renton in the UK.
The congress also included the ADI’s largest team programme to date, with workshops ranging from surgical complications to dental photography in the practice and a technician programme with Christian Coachman from Brazil as lead presenter.
For the first time, the ADI organised a pre-congress session to encourage presentation of posters, cases and research findings by clinicians, technicians or postgraduate students. A case study competition prize was awarded to Tong Wah Lim and the poster presentation prize to Mital Patel.
President Cemal Ucer presented two ADI Honorary Membership Awards. These went to Ashok Sethi and Eddie Scher for their contributions to the ADI over the past twenty five years.
The feedback has been encouraging with the majority of attendees rating the event as ‘excellent’ and 98 per cent planning to return in 2015! One delegate said: “It was the best Congress I have attended ever. Great planning, attention to detail, outstanding speakers and highly relevant content!”.
Delegates let their hair down at the ADI Oscars Bash on the Thursday evening, with entertainment from stunning showgirls and the renowned swing band Dominic Halpin and the Honey Bs. The party was a great success with one attendee saying it was “the best dental social event” he had been to.
The next big ADI event will be the ADI National Members forum on November 9th in London. Call for papers will close on July 5th so hurry up if you would like to present to an audience of more 300 UK implantologists/nurses/technicians or hygienists. This will be followed by a dinner at The Berkley.
