Associate professorship
Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry has promoted Malcolm Bruce, director of the Simulated Dental Learning Environment, to associate professor (senior lecturer).
Malcolm is a primary care dental practitioner who has served his career in the South West. He has been strongly involved in Foundation Training and Fitness to Practise hearings at the General Dental Council and he has also published articles on evidence based dentistry.
Since the opening of Peninsula Dental School Malcolm has engaged in developing and implementing the Bachelor of Dental Surgery course as Year 2 Lead and in particular, facilitating student learning in simulated dental techniques, ensuring they are well prepared to provide a broad range of procedures for patients at the School.
Malcolm has been involved in a research collaboration, between the University of Plymouth Department of Psychology and the Dental School, studying the effect of virtual reality natural environments on patients’ anxiety levels related to dental treatment.
Prof Christopher Tredwin, head of Peninsula School of Dentistry, said: “We are delighted that Malcolm has been recognised for his immense contribution to the development of dental learning. We are fortunate to benefit from his skills and expertise, and he continues to play a vital role in our commitment to producing top quality dentists, excellently equipped to face the challenges of a future in the dental profession.”
