As part of Bupa’s partnership with Paralympics GB, Sophie was asked to create an illustration to celebrate 25 years of Bupa offering dental care to patients. With more than 8,000 colleagues, Bupa is now one of the leading dental care providers in the UK.
Sophie is a former paralympic sprinter who represented Great Britain in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 summer Paralympic Games. She also won a bronze medal in the IPC Athletics World Championships 2013 in Lyon.
In addition to her successful athletic career, she is a talented illustrator and animator who advocates for disability representation and inclusion.
When asked about the inspiration behind her illustration, Sophie said, “I started with a big number 25 and used the leftover space to form a lively crowd of people, from dental professionals to patients. I enjoy drawing groups of people and capturing the everyday interactions that you didn't spot before.
“As a disabled athlete, I wanted to create something that everyone feels a part of. When I draw, I always include a diverse range of people, including those with disabilities and other underrepresented groups. I understand how important and rare it is to see visual representations of yourself, so I make it a priority in my artwork.”
Sophie’s striking illustration brings a fresh and fun perspective on dental care and will be featured across Bupa Dental Care’s collateral throughout 2024.
Louise Harvey, commercial director for Bupa Dental Care, said, “Sophie is such a talented individual, so we were delighted to have her bring to life 25 special years of providing dental care to our patients.
“Her beautiful creation certainly makes us smile; it celebrates our anniversary and represents diversity and inclusion – something we’re extremely passionate about at Bupa Dental Care. The artwork takes pride of place in our Bristol office and across our practice network for everyone to enjoy.”
