Every year, patients have the opportunity to enter the BOS award which celebrates the best account of treatment achieved ‘against the odds’. The winner in 2016 was fifteen-year-old Katharine Highfield from Coulsdon, Surrey, and her orthodontist was Georgina.
Holly Jones, a newsreader for Capital FM and one of the judges who presented the trophy to Georgina, commented, “I was struck by the support and encouragement Georgina gave to Katharine who went from being bullied about her teeth and having people talking behind her back to feeling able to audition for a role in the school play. Orthodontics really changed her life.”
Against the Odds is now open for 2017. This award showcases the way in which clinician and patient pull together during treatment, often in challenging circumstances. The winner is the patient who submits the best account and their prize is £750 worth of travel vouchers. Their orthodontist is presented with a stunning sculpture of a rearing horse to display in their practice.
