A-dec donates dental chairs to Ekwendeni Hospital, Malawi

03 August 2018

Earlier this year Gerry Dolan, from Wrights, the dental supply company, took time out of his busy work schedule to fly to Malawi and install four A-dec chair packages. The chairs were donated by Scottish dentists and shipped to Ekwendeni Hospital in Malawi by container, to help communities that were in dire need of new chairs - the old ones were quite literally falling apart!

Smileawi, a charity set up to improve dental services in Northern Malawi, organised the whole operation. Representatives from the charity were at the container when it arrived to help unload the chairs, ensure everything had been shipped safely and check that it all went where it was meant to go.

A-dec UK donated parts and service kits to ensure the chairs were installed in peak condition, and Gerry, who’s also an A-dec trained technician, expertly put it all together.

“The dental services the local guys can now provide have vastly improved as a result of Gerry's great work.” says Vicky, co-founder of Smileawi. Gerry not only installed the chairs but worked with biomedical students and showed them how to keep the chairs in good working order, ensuring dental practitioners in these communities have equipment they can rely on for years to come.
