MP visits mydentist Romsey to discuss future of NHS dentistry

30 August 2018

Immigration minister and Romsey and Southampton MP, Caroline Nokes, has visited mydentist Romsey to discuss key issues facing the sector.

Accompanied by chief executive, Tom Riall, Caroline spoke with clinicians, nurses, practice staff and patients about access to NHS dentistry and improving the recruitment of clinicians across the country.

Following recent statistics from Public Health England that a child has a tooth extracted under general anaesthetic every 10 minutes, she also discussed children’s oral health with the practice team.

mydentist Romsey is the only practice in the town offering NHS treatment. The practice is focusing on children’s appointments during the holidays to accommodate as many under-16s’ check-ups as possible.

Caroline said, “It was a pleasure to meet the fantastic dentists and nurses at mydentist Romsey. As one of the only NHS dental practices in the area, they have an important role to play in continuing to improve access to dentistry and oral healthcare, particularly for young people, and I’d like to thank them for the work they’re doing.”

Tom Riall, group chief executive of Integrated Dental Holdings, the company which owns mydentist, said, “Improving oral healthcare across the country is incredibly important and it was great that Caroline was so interested in visiting the practice and meeting our staff and patients. Mydentist Romsey offers outstanding dental care to more than 10,000 local people, and I’m extremely proud of what they do.”
